There are so many tasty local foods in Singapore.
Recently, we can see many Singaporean restaurants in Tokyo such as Chicken rice and Bak Kut Teh.
This page will show you my recommendation for local restaurants(stalls), where actually I have been in Singapore.
Contents
Chicken Rice
Chicken Rice is one of the most famous and popular soul foods in Singapore.
Typical Singapore chicken rice is a steamed chicken with a dipping sauce made of ginger, dark soy sauce and chili sauce together with rice cooked with chicken broth soup.
Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice
Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice is the most famous and popular chicken rice stalls in Singapore.
This is located in Maxwell Food Centre, which is a Hawker Centre, and it is really packed if you go there at lunch time.
The Hawker Centre is not huge place while you won’t find your destination stall when you go there at the first time.
Also, you will be a little bit confused to find your stall because there are couple of similar stalls.
I want to travel like locals so I pick up the busy time and see how it goes.
There were more than 20 people on the line when I got to the stall.
But the rotation of stall was very fast, so it would not take long.
Waited about 10 minutes and I just ordered normal Chicken Rice while there were many kinds of dishes on the menu.
Appearnce is not good and you will think why always cucumber is on the side?
But you don’t have to worry anything about it, just taste it.
The texture of chicken is springy and resilient,
and rice is containing plenty of good flavor of chicken broth!!
I just fished it up in an instant… so goooood!!
This is very classic and authentic chicken rice and definitely you will be addicted!!
※It’s very hot in a Hawker Centre even though there are ceiling fans.
※It’s really hard to find the table when you visit at busy time.

Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice
Recomendation Rate: ★★★★☆
- There are 3 types of chicken
- It’s cozy restaurant compared to stall.
Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice is located in Marina Square, which is a huge shopping mall.
You can pick up from the 3 types of chicken: steamed chicken, roasted chicken, and chicken with soya sauce.
Apparently cucumber is on the side
This chicken rice is served chicken and rice separately and with soup.
Chicken skin is Crunchy and Crispy, and sauce is very good with chicken!!
※There are only tables for groups, so little bit feel uncomfortable when you go there alone.
※It costs $0.20 for wet tissue so better decline if you don’t need it.

Bak Kut Teh
Bak Kut Teh is a pork rib dish cooked in broth with some species and garlic, popularly served in Malaysia and Singapore.
Song Fa Bak Kut Teh
Recomendation Rate: ★★★★★
- The soup is plenty of rich flavor but light, and black pepper gives accent to the dish.
- Satisfied with good volume of ribs.
- Open air restaurant and feel locals.
Song Fa Bak Kut Teh was open from 9 a.m. in the morning when I visited.
Branch restaurant is located in couple blocks away from main one and atmosphere is different; main restaurant is open-air and local while branch one reproduce the old-style Chinese house with AC.
Song Fa Bak Kut Teh was founded in 1969. Since that time, they have only used fresh pork every morning.
That makes soup not only very rich flavor but also suppressing a smell of a pork.
Plain Rice $0.80
Water $0.30
Wet Tissue $0.00
Pork ribs are tender and juicy, and make you satisfied with good portions!!
Soup is free refill so you can ask them as much as you want.
So here is my recommendation of how to eat:
①just enjoy pork ribs and normal soup with rice
②put red pepper into the soup.
③crush garlic in the soup and eat ribs and rice
④back to normal soup and bottoms up.
YOU will be addicted for SURE!!

Laksa
Laksa is a spicy noodle soup, and Singapore Laksa is made by soup from shrimp and coconut milk with rice noodle.
You can enjoy it with sambal chili sauce if you like spicy.
In common, Laksa does not include pork so Muslims also can enjoy Laksa, and that’s why it is very popular in Singapore and Malaysia.
328 Katong Laksa
Recomendation Rate: ★★★☆☆
- Classic and authentic Laksa
- Rich and spicy soup
328 Katong Laksa is located in Katong area where are many Laksa restaurants around.
It was my first time to try Laksa and I was surprised that there were not chopsticks; eating with spoon.
Soup is very rich flavor of shrimp and coconut milk and also spicy.
Noodle is not even noodle, very short and soft, so Laksa is more like a soup.
Watch out this sambal chili, seriously this is freaking hot.
